The role of emotional intelligence in the quality of nursing care in nurses working in the care wards of patients with Covid 19

Background/aim: The covid-19 pandemic is a serious threat to the physical and mental health of people, especially nurses who are responsible for caring for covid-19 patients, Since emotional intelligence is the most important factor for individual performance, it can reduce the negative effects of stress among nurses. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of investigating the role of emotional intelligence in the quality of nursing care in nurses working in the care wards of patients with covid-19.  Methods & Materials: In this analytical-cross-sectional research, 120 nursing personnel in the care wards of patients with covid-19 working in Jahrom Hospital in 1400 were selected as a sample using the census method, and with Bar-on emotional intelligence and quality of care nursing (QUALPAC) and demographic information form were evaluated. Research data were analyzed using SPSS version 21 software and descriptive statistical tests and inferential statistics.  Results: The quality level of nursing care (50%) of the nurses was at an average level and the other half of them was at a good level (49.2%), and according to the average emotional intelligence of nurses working in the covid wards (315.91±37.09) high in considered and also the results of this study showed that there is a significant direct relationship between emotional intelligence and the quality of nursing care. (r=0.52، P<0.0001 ( Conclusion: Promotion and improvement of emotional intelligence can help to maintain the health of mental workers in controlling this disease and finally improve the quality of nursing care.
